EMERGENCY MAPS AND ESCAPE ROUTES

INTRODUCTION

It is so important in today's political climate to always be prepared, and, by the very nature of the products we sell; we must have all employees informed in how to deal with an emergency.

GOALS:

To provide immediate action to any emergency at plants or branches and to be well rehearsed in escape routes and meeting locations.

MEETING PREPARATIONS:

Please refer to your Emergency Action Plan. Please create an emergency escape route map for your location by utilizing the attached format and legends.

ITEMS TO CONSIDER:

  • You must take into consideration your neighbors on all sides of your property.
  • Use the proper symbols for fire extinguishers, meeting places, etc. by referring to the legend.
  • The finished maps should be strategically located at various locations. If you have five different rooms in your location then you should have 5 maps. If it is a large fill room or warehouse, then 3 might be sufficient to place where the majority of employees work in various areas of the room.
  • Each map should be marked with a red arrow that says, "You are here".
  • A copy of your maps should be placed on file.
  • Once each map is completed all personnel should know where they are located.
  • Everyone should be taken outside and be familiar with the designated meeting place in case of an evacuation.
  • Everyone should be aware of the location for all fire extinguishers and first aid stations.
  • Who is first aid and CPR trained?
  • Maps should be at eye level and not blocked.

ACTION:

Use the attached drawings as a guide to draw 2 sitemaps for your location. One will be posted in each room showing the evacuation route out of the building from the particular room. Update it for each room. The second one should be drawn to include the surrounding areas and businesses along with the pre-determined meeting place(s). A legend should be supplied as an attachment for both drawings and could be included at the bottom of the page for small locations. Remember to include your gas storage areas and any other hazard when compiling your maps.
COORDINATE WITH YOUR LOCAL FIRE DEPT.
